Make an easy handmade card in a few steps and in minutes! You’ll use washi tape and stamps to decorate – so simple that even a kid can do it. It’s fun, too!
I enjoy making simple, handmade cards for holidays and birthdays. And I have to say that crafting with washi tape is one of THE easiest ways to make a cute, homemade card. You don’t need loads of fancy stamps or layers of paper… just a little tape and a simple stamp!
With Father’s Day around the corner, I decided to make my dad and father-in-law an easy handmade card with washi tape in a plaid pattern. (This plaid card was actually inspired by the card I made for Mother’s Day using creative tape, too.)
These plaid DIY Father’s Day cards were so simple to make . . . want to see how?
DIY Washi Tape Card
Supplies needed:
- White card stock, 8.5” x 11”
- White invitation size envelopes
- Washi tape in various masculine colors
- Paper cutter
- Craft knife
- Cutting mat
- Stamp
- Stamp pad
Instructions:
Cut your card stock in half to form sheets that are 5.5” x 8”. Fold that piece of paper in half to form a small card.
Working on a cutting mat, apply your washi tape to the front of the card in a plaid pattern. Just lay the stripes down at 90 degree angles. The design could be off-centered or inline with the shape of the card. I kept the pattern simple by using four strips of tape.
Use your craft blade to carefully trim the tape right along the edge of the card. You can cut as you lay each strip down. However, on my second attempt, I actually found it easier to lay down all four strips and then trim the tape with my blade.
Stamp a Father’s Day sentiment in some of the white space around the plaid design. Use a color that coordinates with the tape, if you can. I left my cards blank on the inside so we can write out our own messages to our dads… but you certainly could stamp the inside, too.
Don’t forget to apply a strip of tape to the envelope, too! It’s a little detail that will tell dad that this is a special card even before he opens it!
Invitation size envelopes from the office supply store are the perfect size for these cards.
I love the blue and green color combo of these homemade cards. It feels masculine and even a little nautical, too. I can’t wait to give these to our dads this year . . . and I love how easy they were to make!
