Learn how to make unique washi tape ornaments using acrylic shapes! The same technique can be used on wood and other flat Christmas ornaments. So easy!
I have a boatload of holiday washi tape that needed a home. I guess that’s how I look at washi tape now . . . where does this particular roll belong? What can I make out of it?
This time, it was ornaments – I’ve never actually done that before. Which seems so counterintuitive, because washi tape definitely belongs on ornaments.
This time I used Martha Stewart brand acrylic shapes to make the process really easy. These would make great ornaments, but also great tags for packages. Or hostess gifts! Here’s how I made them.
Washi Tape Ornaments
Gather These Supplies
- Martha Stewart acrylic shapes
- Washi tape – your choice of patterns
- Scissors or a craft knife
- Baker’s twine
- White acrylic paint (optional)
Here’s the selection of washi tape that I used. How did I end up with so much holiday washi tape?
Start at one edge and start taping. You can also start in the middle if you want things to be a bit more symmetrical. And you can do it horizontally or at an angle. Go wild and crazy with it!
Smooth the tape out and then flip the ornaments over. Use scissors or a craft knife to trim the edges. I find a craft knife to work more easily than scissors.
I finished my ornaments off by painting on the back with white acrylic paint, because I realized that they were a little transparent and I didn’t like that. You don’t have to do this part.
Add some baker’s twine and bingo – you are good to go. The whole process took just a few minutes. Happy Holidays!
